As the holiday season approaches, Sony unveiled the new PlayStation 5 model, a sleeker, slimmer version with the same cutting-edge technology in a more compact form factor. This refined design offers both convenience and space-saving features.
The new PS5 model packs a powerful punch with a 1TB SSD, providing ample space for your favorite games and media content – a notable upgrade from the original 825GB. For PS5 Digital Edition users, an option to add an Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive later is available, adding versatility and access to physical game copies.
Not just a space-saver, the new PS5 model boasts significant reductions in volume and weight. It’s been trimmed down by over 30% in volume, and it’s lighter by 18-24% compared to its predecessors. This sleeker build, coupled with four distinct cover panels – glossy on top and matte at the bottom – promises a visually striking addition to your gaming setup.
The new PS5 model includes a horizontal stand for added stability. Additionally, a separate Vertical Stand compatible with all PS5 models will be available.
Starting November, the new PS5 model will be available in the U.S. at select retailers and on direct.playstation.com, followed by a global rollout. Once current PS5 inventory is depleted, the new model will become the standard offering.
In terms of pricing, details vary by region. In the U.S., the PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive will be priced at $499.99, while the PS5 Digital Edition will be available for $449.99. In Europe, the prices are €549.99 and €449.99 respectively. In the U.K., the prices are £479.99 and £389.99, and in Japan, the prices are ¥66,980 (includes tax) and ¥59,980 (includes tax).
In early 2024, a range of PS5 Console Cover colors will be released, including an all-matte Black variant and the Deep Earth Collection colors in Volcanic Red, Cobalt Blue, and Sterling Silver. Prices for these covers will start at $54.99.
