It may not have come as much of a surprise to anyone, but last year, BlizzCon 2020 was cancelled due to Covid-19. So this year, like many organizations, BlizzCon has decided to go completely virtual in their BlizzConline 2021 event.
The Deets
The event takes place February 19, 2021 starting at 5PM ET (2PM PT if you’re on the other side of the country) and then continues the following day beginning at 3PM ET (12PM PT). The event is completely free to attend and does not require virtual passes unlike previous events.
The event begins with a 1 hour long opening ceremony. From there, the event will split 6 ways covering Blizzard’s various channels: Blizzard Entertainment, World Of Warcraft, Hearthstone, Diablo, Overwatch, and their Strategy channel (think StarCraft). Visit the Blizzard website to see the complete event schedule.
How do I actually watch?
Though there are quite a number of ways to join in on the fun, some of the simplest ways to watch the event is to either visit Blizzard’s YouTube channel or their Twitch Channel once the event begins. Blizzard also states that the event will be available in multiple languages as well. Those details can easily be found on their website.
The End
Now for some, BlizzConline is not all rainbows and sunshine. Many individuals heavily involved in the gaming and cosplay communities view BlizzCon as more than just a press event. They view it rather as a place where their community gathers. A place where they hang out with friends, show off their snazzy cosplay skills, and meet personal celebrities and heroes in the community. The ongoing pandemic has shifted the climate and majorly altered the ways people interact with one another. Lets hope that the virtual event can still bring at least some levels of joy like it always has in the past.
